The RNLI operate over 230 lifeboat stations in the UK and Republic of Ireland, rescuing an average of 21 lives per day.
The Challenge
RNLI had been experiencing rapid growth in both data and email for some time. They were seeking a strategy to address this problem, whilst also ensuring infrastructure resiliency and performance were maximised.
RNLI wanted the new solution to provide extensive resilience to the desktop and server environment. The overall solution needed to be able to provide seamless, continuous operations for the entire operation even in the most extreme circumstances where an entire building complex suffered a major disaster.
The Solution
Telamon designed and implemented a clustered, mirrored SAN solution on HP hardware. It is now possible for RNLI to experience the loss of any single component in their environment – from disk drive, disk controller or server through to an entire site, without the user community experiencing any loss of service. This solution helps RNLI to deliver a reliable service to it’s users around the UK thus helping to ensure continuity of service for one of the main life saving organisations in the UK.
Why Telamon?
Telamon was chosen by RNLI to develop this solution in part because of our history of delivering innovative solutions to complex problems for RNLI, and in part because of our leadership position in the market with this kind of technology.
Together with Telamon’s expertise in the implementation of such solutions, these technologies have provided RNLI with a completely resilient solution.
