With more than 250,000 residents, South Gloucestershire is the fastest-growing area in the South West. The Council now has over 2,500 ICT users spread across multiple sites and is increasing in size rapidly.
The Challenge
SGC had over 2,500 users accessing File and Print services on multiple legacy NetWare servers, and a variety of GroupWise deployments for email & collaboration services.
The distributed nature of the environment (serving some 40 + locations) meant that it was difficult to maintain standards at multiple locations and their multiple servers. Troubleshooting and user management became difficult and often fraught with logistical problems.
Solution
SGC elected to consolidate the ICT infrastructure and standardise on a new, integrated Microsoft based infrastructure; simultaneously replacing NetWare with Windows 2003 and GroupWise with Exchange 2003.
Telamon’s team assisted by analysing the current environment, and then designed, tested and piloted the entire migration process in close association with the SGC IT administrators. Following successful test and pilot stages, this joint effort delivered all of the changes to every site within the Council’s infrastructure.
